Hieperdepiep hoera, vandaag hebben alle moeders feest en worden ze voor één dag in ere hersteld. We staan er even bij stil dat ze altijd voor iedereen klaarstaat. De commercie heeft daar handig op ingespeeld. De aanbiedingen vlogen de laatste tijd regelmatig over het beeldscherm, voor elke moeder wat wils, bloemen, parfum, een cadeaubon, keus te over. Dus we zijn er klaar voor, het begint met ontbijt óp bed en kruimels ín bed.
Maar we gaan niet zeuren, nee, we gaan ervan genieten. Na of voor dat ontbijt komt dan het cadeau, ook al is het fout, je bent blij, heel erg blij en dat laat je ook blijken. Je geeft en krijgt dikke knuffels en gaat iets leuks doen, op visite bij je moeder, respectievelijk schoonmoeder en ’s avonds uit eten. Koken mag vader ook, alles mag, je laat het over je heen komen en geniet met volle teugen.
Zo ongeveer gaat het nu, op de dag van vandaag.
Vroeger was dat niet zo, toen werd Moederdag nog gevierd zoals het officieel hoort!
Dan had moeders een dagje vrij en ging vader aan de slag. Geen ontbijt op bed, nee vader had het loei druk, er moest hard gewerkt worden. Hij moest vroeg op om al zijn kroost te verzorgen: wassen en netjes aankleden. Sommigen waren daar heel handig in, anderen niet. Die wisten bij God niet waar en hoe ze mee moesten beginnen. De grote kinderen konden het gelukkig zelf, maar de kleintjes niet, die moesten geholpen worden, en dat ging niet zonder slag of stoot.
Vader had het druk, moeder niet, die lag zich in bed te verbijten om niet in te springen. Ze hoorde haar kroost blèren, vader vloeken en de baby krijsen. Maar ze mocht niks doen, nééé, ze moest genieten van haar vrije dag!! Per slot had ze er maar een per jaar, en die was pas begonnen!
Nadat hij de tafel gedekt had, mocht ze naar beneden komen. Ze zag in een oogopslag dat er van alles mis was gegaan, maar ze zei niks, ze straalde. Na het ontbijt ging vader aan de slag in de keuken. Het echte werk moest beginnen: KOKEN!
Moeder werd naar de luie stoel gestuurd en mocht doen wat ze wilde, zolang ze maar bleef zitten. En dat deed ze, met gespitste oren zat ze daar op het puntje van de stoel zich te verbijten om niet op te staan en naar de keuken te vliegen. Want ze wist dat hij er een grote puinhoop van zou maken.
Dat ging elk jaar zo, de zondagse soep smaakte naar water, het vlees was knokenhard, de aardappelen aangebrand, en de groenten waren zo ver doorgekookt dat het net snot leek. Maar het was goedbedoeld, die arme man had zich helemaal de naad uitgewerkt, dus at moeder keurig haar bordje leeg, prees hem de hemel in en ging weer verder met ‘’niks ‘’ doen.
Tegen de tijd dat vader de keuken aan kant had was het koffietijd, en bij koffie hoort gebak, dus was hij terug bij af. Maar hij had een voordeel, het zat er bijna op. Ook voor moeder, ze bereidde zich in stilte voor op de maandag, want, wat ze zo in het voorbij lopen gezien had, stemde haar niet vrolijk. De keuken zag eruit alsof er een bom ontploft was en vaders goede kostuum kon linea recta naar de stomerij, maar ze bleef lachen.
Aan het eind van de dag bedankte ze hem uitvoerig en verheugde zich op vaderdag. Die dag mocht hij doen wat hij elke andere zondag deed, lui op de bank liggen.
Ik ben ook moeder en blij dat het vandaag Moederdag is. Ik laat alles over me heen komen, nou ja, bijna alles dan!
