Zodra je het levenslicht ziet begin je daar al mee, amper uit de buik van moeders zet je het op een krijsen omdat je duidelijk wilt laten merken dat je liever in de buik was blijven zitten. Als je dat een paar weken volhoudt wordt de blijdschap een stuk minder, maar ook daar komt verandering in, zodra je eerste lachje op je gezicht verschijnt en je gaat brabbelen. Hele verhalen vertel je zonder dat ze er ook maar iets van begrijpen.
Sommige mensen houden dat hun hele leven vol, kletsen als een kip zonder kop heet dat.
Maar je communiceert en daar gaat het om. Na de krijs- en brabbelperiode leer je de eerste woordjes en gaat daar mee aan de slag, niemand behalve pa en ma snapte er iets van, maar je leert bij en gaat verder. Verbaal en non-verbaal, mogelijkheden genoeg, non-verbale communicatie gebruik je vaak als je in het buitenland bent en je de taal niet spreekt. Je staat op de markt en wijst iets aan dat je graag wilt kopen, wrijft duim en wijsvinger tegen elkaar en kijkt de verkoper vragend aan, de man knikt blij, hij weet wat je bedoelt.
Als je kwaad bent op iemand steek je je middelvinger in de lucht, ook dat begrijpen mensen. Als je iemand een compliment wilt geven steek je je duim in de lucht. Je kunt ook, als je héél erg kwaad bent iemand een klap op zijn hoofd geven, een schop tegen de schenen, mogelijkheden te over. Je hoeft je mond niet open te trekken.
Mensen die elkaar al héél lang kennen hoeven elkaar maar aan te kijken om te weten wat de ander bedoeld, vooral in gezelschap is dat erg handig.
Als je iemand leuk vindt communiceer je anders, je trekt je zondagse gezicht op en lacht, in een disco waar de muziek keihard aan staat doe je niets anders. Je loopt naar iemand toe, doet alsof je iets drinkt en kijkt de persoon vragend aan. Als ze je leuk vinden wijzen ze naar een drankje dat voor hun neus staat, als ze je niet leuk vinden, halen ze de schouders op. Anders wordt het als een man een lekker wijf ziet, hij zijn duim tussen zijn wijs- en middelvinger steekt en haar vragend aankijkt. De kans dat ze hem begrijpt is groot, de kans dat ze bevestigend knikt klein. De dames van lichte zeden communiceren ook zo, maar dat hoort bij hun vak.
Dieren communiceren altijd non-verbaal, ze kunnen niet anders. Als een hond een andere hond ziet, snuffelt hij aan zijn gat. De andere hond begrijpt meteen de boodschap en reageert. Als hij, of in dit geval zij iets wilt laat ze dat toe, als ze niks wilt gromt ze. Zo makkelijk gaat dat in het dierenrijk.
Verbale communicatie wordt het meest gebruikt, het is makkelijk en natuurlijk. Maar ook dat gaat vaak mis. Als een man de krant zit te lezen hebben vrouwen nog weleens de neiging een gesprek te beginnen. Uit ervaring weet ik dat je dat beter niet kunt doen. Ze luisteren toch niet. Dan lul je in feite tegen het behang, dus… niet doen. Als mannen sport kijken ook niet. Als je iets gedaan wilt hebben moet je het juiste moment afwachten, voor de seks is vaak zo’n moment want dan heb je zijn aandacht.
Vrouwen praten altijd, staan ook altijd open voor een goed gesprek, zeker als er nieuwtjes worden uitgedeeld. Ze blijven graag op de hoogte. Ze kunnen ook eindeloos kletsen over niks, ook dat is een vak apart. Mannen praten doorgaans hoofdzakelijk over zaken, zeggen ze! Maar hoe luidt het gezegde? Als mannen niet meer weten waar ze over praten moeten, praten ze daarover dat vrouwen zoveel praten!
Wat veel mensen ook doen is praten met hun huisdier. Pas geleden hoorde ik nog een eenrichtingsgesprek van een vrouw met haar hond. Nadat ze hem een paar keer had moeten roepen kwam hij eindelijk en toen begon het. ‘Zo en waarom kom je nu pas? Ik heb je al een paar keer geroepen, nu gaan we dus niet meer spelen, maar meteen naar huis, en een koekje krijg je ook niet.’ Boos bond ze hem de riem om en liep verder, de hond vrolijk kwispelend achter haar aan. Ik weet zeker dat hij er niks van had begrepen, maar ze was tevreden dat zag ik aan haar gezicht. Eerlijk gezegd vermoed ik dat ze thuis niks te zeggen heeft.
Tot slot nog even dit, een gesprek voeren met de telefoon in je handen is helemaal in, ook helemaal fout. Communiceren met neergeslagen ogen heet dat! Het is maar dat je het weet!
