Het eerste wat mij opviel toen ik mijn lieve schat leerde kennen was dat hij geen druppel alcohol dronk, nooit niet. Op mijn vraag waarom hij dat niet deed zei hij dat hij het niet lekker vond. Oké! In de loop der jaren wende ik eraan en maakte vaker grapjes in de trant van: “Als jou ooit iets gebeurt verkoop ik jouw nieren per opbod, ik weet zeker dat ik dan rijk wordt.
Nou, dat had ik beter niet kunnen zeggen.
Een aantal jaren later stond ik ’s ochtends nietsvermoedend op en liep naar beneden. Ik zag meteen dat er iets mis was. Lijkbleek zat hij aan de keukentafel. Hij klaagde over pijn in zijn rug en buik. Nadat ik bijgekomen was van de schrik besloten we naar de huisarts te gaan. Hij was zo ziek dat hij niet in staat was te rijden en omdat ik geen rijbewijs heb belden we een taxi. De huisarts had vrijwel onmiddellijk in de gaten wat er aan de hand was: NIERSTENEN. Hij kreeg medicijnen mee en als het goed zou gaan zouden de stenen vergruizen en kon hij ze uitplassen. Het lukte tot grote opluchting van ons. Hij blij en ik blij. Gelukkig was het goed afgelopen.
Maar…voor een poosje terug had hij weer last. Ik schrok en wilde de huisarts bellen, maar dat wilde hij niet. “Ik drink veel water en hoop dat ik ze uitplas.” Ongerust hield ik hem in de gaten. De halve nacht heeft hij op de bank gezeten samen met een fles water. En inderdaad de volgende ochtend liet hij me vol trots een héél klein zwart blinkend steentje zien. “Kijk,” zei hij vol trots, “ik heb hem uitgeplast, hier is hij.” Het steentje lag in een medicijnendoosje dat we ooit eens gekregen hadden. Ik was blij en opgelucht. Maar in de loop van de ochtend vroeg ik me af hoe hij dat steentje uit de pot had gehaald. “Met een pincet eruit gevist,” zei hij vol trots en voordat ik verder kon vragen voegde hij eraan toe, “die pincet heb ik weggegooid.” Oké, het was een oudje waar ik niks mee deed, dus wij weer blij.
Een paar weken later gingen we uit eten en gewoonlijk zorg ik ervoor dat we zijn medicijnen meenemen. Even ter verduidelijking: Hij heeft diabetisch en moet dus medicijnen slikken.
Vlak voordat we gingen pakte ik het medicijnendoosje dat ik altijd gebruik en toen ik de pillen erin had gestopt merkte ik dat hij niet goed meer sloot. Goed, dacht ik, dan pak ik het reservedoosje dat op het aanrecht staat. Ik maakte het open en zag een heel klein zwart dingetje erin liggen. Ik was verbaasd en vroeg me af wat het was en hoe dat daar nu in terecht was gekomen. Ik deponeerde het in de gootsteen en dacht nergens meer aan. Over stom rund gesproken! Héél erg stom!
Maar… nu komt het! Zitten we lekker te eten, vraagt hij of ik zijn pillen bij me heb. “Ja,heb ik.” Ik pak het doosje uit mijn tas en zet het op tafel met de woorden: “Dat andere doosje sluit niet meer, daarom heb ik deze gepakt.”
Hij kijkt me met hele grote verbaasd aan en zegt: “Wat heb je met mijn niersteen gedaan?”
Oh, shit dacht ik, dat was dat kleine zwarte dingetje dat daar inzat. Daar had ik geen seconde meer aan gedacht. Ja, en toen moest ik met de billen bloot. “Dat heb ik weggegooid,” biechtte ik op. Nou, dat sloeg niet in. Dat was fout, helemaal fout. Hij had dat willen bewaren! “Waarom dat dan?” vroeg ik verbaasd. “Het is iets van mijzelf, iets persoonlijks, ” kreeg ik als antwoord. Dat ik dat weggegooid had snapte hij niet. Néé, ik ook niet, was het ding helemaal vergeten, Gedelete uit mijn hersenpan. Stom, Stom, Stom.
Goed, niets meer aan te doen. Over en sluiten. We eten verder en gingen na afloop naar huis. Ik liep in een weg door naar de keuken en BINGO! Daar lag hij nog, helemaal alleen in een klein hoekje. Pfff, wat een opluchting. Normaal spoel ik dat weg, maar omdat ik haast had en het ding zo klein was had ik het laten liggen. Vol trots liet ik het zien. Hij blij en ik blij, nou tevreden. Eind goed al goed!
Ik vond het achteraf wel erg grappig, heb ook netjes gevraagd of ik dit verhaal mocht gebruiken. En dat mocht! Lief toch?
Mochten er mensen zijn die het steentje willen komen bewonderen, dan kan dat. Maar alleen op vaste kijkdagen. Maandag, woensdag en vrijdagmiddag, van twee tot drie.
